Pomona High School, Pomona, May 1994: Carols Santa Olaya had already distinguished himself as a leader with fellow students at the San Pedro Boys and Girls Club which was founded by Grandmaster Jon Wiedenman in 1992. Pomona High School Championships, 1995: Mr. Carlos Santa Olaya wins second in Upper Belt Freestyle, but he also wins "Sportsman of the Year." He continued to be a leader in Grandmaster Jon Wiedenman's Chang Moo Kwan San Pedro Boy's and Girls Program, and an inspiration to many young martial artists and "at risk" kids. San Pedro Boys and Girls Club, San Pedro California, 1996: Late that year Mr. Carlos Santa Olaya became the first black belt an the Boys and girls club. It was a great accomplishment for Grandmaster Jon Wiedenman as well. The two had trained together for over four years.
